MEETING JANUARY 24, 2009

HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY

At this meeting, the girls earned their yellow petal. Mrs. Kim and the girls discussed what it meant to be helpful and friendly. The girls gave feedback as to the ways in which we can be helpful to one another. We played the Name Toss game. Each girl had to state their name when the ball was thrown to them. After everyone had a chance to say their name, the ball was tossed again. This time, the girl who caught the ball had to say the name of the girl who had thrown it to her. It was a good thing that we played this game, as some girls still don't know the others names. For our activities, each girl decorated 2 "Friendship Bags" and filled them with goodies. They gave 1 bag to a friend in the troop, the other bag was taken home with them to be given to a new friend. The Scouts also made "Helpful Hand" cards to leave behind as they perform helpful tasks during the next few days.

Thank you to Natalie and Donna for the great snack!

THE CIRCUS IS COMING

This will probably be an event the girls would love to attend. I'm sure many of you will probably be going anyway, maybe we could all sit together. Information is as follows:

OPTION#1 Scout Night: Friday, February 6th at 7:30. Scout Workshop will begin at 5:30 and will last approximately 30 minutes. The circus preshow will start at 6:30. If some of you will not be able to attend the early events, that is fine. We will see you at 7:30.

TICKET PRICE: $12.00 Scout Tickets (This price is available to EVERYONE!) Seats will be in the Lower Bowl.

OPTION#2 Instead of our regularly scheduled meeting on February 7th, we could
attend the Saturday 11:00 show.

TICKET PRICE: $15.00 Seats will be in the Upper Bowl.

I am waiting on my contact at the Bilo Center to call me back with the seating information. Please let me know no later than Tuesday as to which option you would be interested in.

*OPTION#1 would probably be more beneficial, as the girls will earn a patch and the seating will be better.*

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT FOR JANUARY

At our meeting on January 24th, the girls will earn their "Friendly & Helpful" petal. We would like for each girl to bring in "Goodwill" bags to demonstrate these traits. If possible, please let your child go through their old clothing to see what they no longer wear. They will place their used clothing into the "Goodwill" bag(average grocery store bag). The bags will then be delivered to Greer Community Ministries. They have told me they are in special need of coats; so if you have any old ones--bring them as well. This is a great way for the girls to give back to the community, please help them to accomplish this task.

Thank you.

COOKIE ROLL OUT

The Girl Scouts will begin selling cookies on January 16th. It was discussed in our meeting that our Troop Cookie Goal will be 330. The girls have decided to use their cookie sale money to go on a trip to Gatti Town. They will also give 10% of their profit to aide in their communty to make the world a better place. To check out what cookies will be sold this year, please click here.

Let's all get out there and help these girls reach their goal!!!

MEETING JANUARY 10, 2009

HONEST & FAIR

The girls read The Little Red Hen. They discussed how it wasn't fair to the hen that no one wanted to help her make the bread; but they all wanted to eat it.

They also played The Rock Game and made bracelets. Each pair of girls had to be fair and divide the beads up so that they would each have the same amount.

Heidi Edwards discussed the upcoming Cookie Sale.

Girl Scout Investiture Ceremony

The Investiture is a ceremony in which the girls are recognized as an official "Girl Scout". This event was held in December. The girls recited the Girl Scout Promise and were given the Daisy GirlScout pin. The girls concluded the ceremony with a performance of "I'm a Little Daisy".

What Our Daisy Girls Have Done So Far

Our first meeting was held in November. Since then, things have really started coming together. The girls attended Disney on Ice and began learning the Girl Scout Promise. In December, they earned their first petal patch by learning what it meant to be considerate and caring. They made ornaments to give to their family and participated in a Food Drive for Greer Community Ministries.
