MEETING NOVEMBER 20, 2010

At this meeting, the girls completed the "Ready, Set, Go Camping" Try-It. We played camping bingo and discussed items that we would need to take with us on a camping trip. Each girl was also given a bandanna. We discussed all the ways that a bandanna could be used: head scarf, cool wrap around the neck, a way to carry food, and a tourniquet for first aid.

We also earned the "Make It, Eat It" Try-It. For their craft, each girl was given the supplies needed to make their own recipe book. These came out really cute. For the make it, eat it-They made Fruit Fun Fizz with Pineapple, Orange, and Cranberry Juices mixed with Ginger Ale. They also made fruit kabobs with pineapples, bananas, and grapes.

It was a nice afternoon, so we ended the meeting on the playground.

BROWNIES HAVE SKILLS

On October 23, 2010 we attending Brownies Have Skills at Camp Wistogoman. The girls learned about some of the skills Brownies need to have while camping. We took a hike through the woods and discussed how important it is to "leave no trace". We should leave nature just how it is, so others can enjoy it. The girls were also taught how to build a fire. This was demonstrated by making an edible fire out of marshmallows, pretzel sticks, and hot tamales. This was a fun activity for the girls. The last thing learned was knot tying. Each girl was given a rope and was taught how to tie different knots. It was confusing at first, but the scouts got the hang of it!

This was a very fun day out doors. The skills learned here will help the scouts earn the "Ready, Set, Go Camping" Try-It.

MEETING OCTOBER 23RD, 2010

The girls earned the "Let's Pretend" Try-It Badge. Each girl came to the meeting in their Halloween Costume. We made masks with feathers and sequins and participated in a game of charades. Each girl had the opportunity to "act out" and the others had to guess what they were doing. It was alot of fun. At the end of our meeting, the girls made a Halloween trail mix for a snack.

MEETING OCTOBER 9, 2010

The girls finished completing the Girl Scout Ways Try-It. In the opening activity, the girls made windsocks. Each streamer represented a Girl Scout Law. It was fun, and the girls did a good job. In the Brownie ring we learned new songs: The Little Green Frog and Percy the Pale Faced Polar Bear. To earn the Try-It, the girls learned sewing skills and made a Sit-Upon and finished the day with making smores. We didn't have a campfire to toast marshmallows. Instead we used graham crackers, chocolate icing, and marshmallow fluff. They tasted really good!

Thank you Traci and Mrs. Sizemore for bringing snacks and drinks. Thanks to Wendi for bringing in the stuffing for our situpons.

Our First Brownie Meeting

At today's meeting, 8 girls met one another and became fast friends. We all made name tags, introduced ourselves and recited the Girl Scout Promise and Law. We demonstrated some of the Girl Scout Ways: handshake, quite sign, and friendship circle. We discussed the Brownie Motto "Always Be Prepared" and made individual first aid kits. After a snack, we ended the meeting with a friendship circle and squeeze and sang Make New Friends.

Through all the excitement, it was clear that this is sure to be a fun year for these Brownie Girl Scouts!

WEEKEND IN COLUMBIA

With their cookie profit money, the girls decided to spend the weekend in Columbia visiting Riverbank Zoo and Edventure Children's Museum. This visit included an overnight stay at Staybridge Suites(Courtesy of Buddy Henderson). The girls enjoyed feeding the giraffes, rock climbing, pony riding, and 3 trips on the carousel. Oh, and the animals were pretty cool too.

After 5 hours at the zoo, we checked in at the hotel. The girls spent the rest of the afternoon swimming in the pool and playing around. For dinner, we ordered pizza. We spent the night snacking on candies and popcorn and giving the girls manicures and pedicures. They finally went to sleep at midnight!

On Sunday, we visited EdVenture Children's Museum. The girls got a kick out of the huge boy named Eddie. They were allowed to climb up and explore the insides of his human body. We visited different exhibits in the museum. Karley had fun pretending to be a newsreporter. Brianna enjoyed working on the farm, and Kyleah had fun playing dentist. One of the best things about EdVenture was visiting their Butterfly Garden. There were so many beautiful butterflies.

We left EdVenture around 2:30 and had lunch at Applebees. We arrived back to Greer around 5:30. This is how the girls spent their car ride home.

MEETING MAY 22, 2010

This meeting was held at Greer City Park. The girls enjoyed drawing with sidewalk chalk, blowing bubbles, playing on the playground, and eating McDonalds happy meals. For the last several weeks we have been growing lady bugs. At this meeting, we released the lady bugs. The lady bugs will go to the flowers at the park and help to keep the aphids off of them. This is our attempt to help a community garden. In doing so the girls have now received their Honey Bee Award.

MAY 15: STRAWBERRY PICKING

Our troop visited Stewart Farms for strawberry picking. Although there was a threat of rain and the sun was hot, the girls still had lots of fun looking for the perfect berries. They each picked a gallon of the sweetest strawberries you have ever tasted! The girls received a Strawberry Picking Fun Patch for their participation.

As you can see, the girls were wore out after they were done picking. They worked hard to pick those berries!

APRIL 17TH DAISY GARDEN PARTY

We attended the Daisy Garden Party at the SC Botanical Gardens at Clemson University. It was a very beautiful place, full of pretty flowers and gardens. We had fun at the activity tables and then took a tour of some of the gardens. The girls especially liked the children's gardens, in which they were able to see Peter Rabbit's Garden. They also explored insects, visiting the fish and turtles at the ponds, and took a walk on a nature trail.
